Cape Town – An airport came to a temporal standstill as a proud father performed his own Māori Haka, as he welcomed his son.
Haka are a variety of ceremonial performance art in Māori culture that are often performed by a group, with vigorous movements and stamping of the feet.
The video was recently posted on Reddit, with a caption that read: “Father performs the Haka as he meets his son at the airport. There was not a dry eye in the house.”
In the video, the father is seen bare footed and warmly welcoming his son with a memorable act.
He starts off the dance firm but slowly, and it gradually turns into chanting while his son looks on.
When the dance ends, the son walks towards his father and they embrace, as the crowd applauds and cheers.
Viewers took to the comments to share their thoughts on the video.
“I’m just an old white guy from NYC. My eyes tear up every time I see a Haka. There is something very powerful about pure unbridled emotion being narrowly focused. Power and control of emotion. It is truly something special.” read one comment
Another viewer said: “There is honestly something magical about it. We could all feel the love in the room, it was magnetic.”
