Cape Town – A man who won a 219 million yuan ($30 million) lottery jackpot has reportedly revealed that he plans to keep his huge winnings a secret from his wife and daughter.
The winner reportedly pocketed £26million ($30m) after buying 40 tickets using the same seven numbers, reports said.
The man from Guangxi Zhuang in China has reportedly not told his family about his winning, because he fears it might make them lazy in the future, reported the Mirror.
The man, identified only as Li, found out about his winning on Friday, October 21 but only claimed his winnings the Monday while wearing a costume to hide his identity.
He said the night he found out he won, he didn’t sleep. Instead, he took a train to a nearby town the next morning where he stayed in a hotel for the weekend.
“I slept in the hotel during those two days. I did not go outside that weekend because I did not want to lose my tickets,” the report quoted Li as saying.
He also revealed that the hasn’t informed his family of his fortune.
“I have not told my wife or kid. I am concerned that they might feel superior to other people and will not work or study hard in future,” the report quoted Li as saying.
Bloomberg reported that although Li hasn’t revealed his plans, he has already donated a substantial amount of money to charity.
He donated 5 million yuan to charity and said he hadn’t decided what to do with the rest. He collects some 171.6 million yuan after taxes, the report said.
