Guatemala – Authorities in Guatemala on Sunday captured alleged drug trafficker Luciano Bravo “for the purpose of extradition” to the United States, where he is wanted on charges of trafficking cocaine, the Attorney General’s Office said.
Bravo, also known as Pana, is “required to appear for trial in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas,” Attorney General’s Office spokesman Moises Ortiz told reporters.
He is accused of conspiring to manufacture and distribute “a mixture containing a detectable amount of cocaine” that would be sent “illegally to the United States.”
Ortiz said an investigation found that a drug trafficking organization had been operating throughout South, Central and North America since at least 2008 and had shipped large quantities of cocaine to the United States.

The investigation determined that Bravo was a member of the organization between 2017 and 2020.
“He was responsible for directing, managing and facilitating some of the organization’s drug trafficking activities in Guatemala and elsewhere,” he said.
Authorities set a record last year by arresting 57 Guatemalans wanted for extradition by the United States on drug trafficking charges.
According to official sources, large international cartels, with the help of local drug traffickers, transport drugs and launder money in Guatemala and the rest of Central America, generating criminal violence in the region.
US figures indicate that 90 percent of the cocaine arriving in the United States passes through Mexico and Central America in planes, boats and submarines.
