Abuja — At least three people died after a helicopter crashed on its way to an offshore oil production facility in Nigeria on Thursday, the state oil firm said.
The helicopter chartered by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) was carrying six passengers and two crew members from the southern oil hub Port Harcourt to the floating Nuims Antan unit, the firm said.
In a statement on X, the company said it lost contact with the helicopter shortly after 11 am (10:00 GMT).

“So far, three bodies have been recovered,” it said.
“Our prayers are with the passengers, crew and their respective families at this very difficult time.”
It said a search and rescue operation was under way.
