Cape Town – A KwaZulu-Natal police officer was reportedly arrested for murder and appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday after he allegedly assaulted his mother to death.

KwaZulu-Natal social development MEC, Nonhlanhla Khoza said that the mother of the accused cop, Greta Xaba, 70, had allegedly been repeatedly assaulted by her son but refused to open a case or talk about the abuse she suffered for years.

“It is alleged that a police officer stationed at KwaDabeka community service centre badly assaulted his mother and locked her in the house at the weekend. The grandmother’s helper and little child who were in the house allegedly escaped through the window to plead for help from neighbours,” the report quoted Khoza as saying.
Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala said that police received information that a 70-year-old woman was being assaulted at her home in KwaDabeka at 22:30 on May 6.
“On arrival they found a 46-year-old man assaulting the victim with a plank,” Gwala said, according to IOL.
The woman sustained multiple injuries and was taken to hospital where she died, the report said.
