Cape Town – ANC Secretary-general Fikile Mbalula says his party has served Eskom and Andre de Ruyter with legal papers regarding allegations made by the former CEO during a television interview.
De Ruyter alleged that high-ranking government officials were involved in the corruption at Eskom.
During a media address on Friday, Mbalula said, “We did follow up on De Ruyter. We served court papers on Eskom and the former CEO this week”.
“We think that there is something illegal committed by De Ruyter. The ANC is a political party that has not instructed anyone to go to Eskom and mess things up,” he added.
The former CEO was given a deadline of 7 days to respond, or the ANC “will take further steps”.
Mbalula said that by the ANC serving legal papers to De Ruyter, the party is not “suppressing whistleblowers”.
“When we challenge De Ruyter, we are told that we are suppressing whistleblowers. Where did the whistleblower go? Is the eTV studios a whistleblowing office?”
