Cape Town – Springbok captain, Siya Kolisi will be joining the likes of Trevor Nyakane and Warrick Gelant in France after it was announced that he will be leaving the South African domestic rugby scene to join French club, Racing 92 after the 2023 World Cup.
According to the French club, the signing of South Africa’s captain is larger than just him putting on the team’s jersey.
“This signing is part of a broader long-term collaboration agreement between the Racing 92 and Cell C Sharks clubs where each of the parties has made financial efforts,” Racing 92 said in a statement.
“Different areas have been defined, including an exchange of skills on rugby schools, training centers and the respective professional teams.”
The club not only praised Kolisi as the outstanding player he is but also praised him “for his commitment to education and social cohesion”.

“At the same time committed to his community, he has become a real source of inspiration through all the societal actions he leads beyond the playground.
“With his arrival at the club at the end of the 2023 World Cup, Racing 92 is proud to have in its ranks an athlete committed to society. It is therefore quite natural that the club, already invested in solidarity initiatives, will join the initiatives it leads,” the French club added.
Kolisi released a statement in which he thanked all of the positive influences in his life, and thanked the Sharks for welcoming him in 2021. He also acknowledged the ambitions of his new club.
“I’m fully aware that Racing 92 has great ambitions on the field, while the club’s progressive outlook on philanthropic projects is also hugely encouraging and aligns with my personal values and mission,” Kolisi said.
He also stated that he and his wife Rachel will still be involved with the Kolisi foundation despite spending time in France.
“Our beautiful country will always be home for us, and we look forward to returning after this chapter.”
