Nairobi – Kenyan motor rally driver Asad Khan died in hospital on Sunday, his family announced as they vowed to pursue manslaughter charges against his girlfriend and fellow rally driver Maxine Wahome for allegedly attacking him.
Wahome, 26, was charged with domestic assault this week following an incident involving Khan.
“It is with sad news that we have to announce the death of our beloved brother Asad Khan at the Avenue Hospital in Nairobi this afternoon,” his brother Adil Khan said in a statement issued on behalf of the family.
“As a family we will make sure that we seek justice for Asad. The court case has to change from the previous charge of assault to manslaughter,” he added.

Wahome won acclaim when she became the first Kenyan woman to win the third-tier WRC Safari Rally in June.
Prosecutors told the court Wahome had attacked her 50-year-old boyfriend at their apartment on Monday.
Wahome, who was released on Wednesday on a 100 000 Kenyan shillings ($815) cash bail, has denied the charges.
The family of Khan had earlier put out an appeal on social media, calling for blood donations.
