The AU Sports Council’s objective is to promote participation, build capacity and achieve excellence in African sports and strive towards all the aspirations of Agenda 2063 in self-sustainability on # ‘The Africa We Want’.

This year, the African Union Sports Council has been at the forefront of groundbreaking projects, nurturing talent and fostering a spirit of unity through sports.
In East Africa, the ‘Youth in Sports’ initiative has empowered thousands of young athletes, providing training facilities and scholarships.
West Africa’s ‘Community Sports Revival’ program has successfully rejuvenated local sports culture, bringing sports back to the heart of communities.
Southern Africa’s focus on integrating technology in sports has set a new benchmark for the continent, while North Africa’s commitment to women’s sports has resulted in an unparalleled increase in female participation at all levels.
Global and Continental Sporting Triumphs
African athletes and teams have shone brightly in 2023. From the athletics tracks of the World Championships to the football pitches of the African Cup of Nations, Africa’s sportsmen and women have displayed exceptional skill, resilience, and sportsmanship.

• West African football teams have excelled both in regional tournaments and in prestigious international clubs, showcasing outstanding talent and teamwork.
