In its ongoing bid to ensure its water autonomy, Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCzone) is set to break ground on a new desalination plant.
Afrik21 reports that the new plant, with a daily capacity of 350 000㎥, will complement existing desalination plants active in the SCzone, which stretches 461 km² along the Suez Canal and hosts six ports and four development zones for industries ranging from mobility and energy to health and agriculture.
The work on the new plant will be completed in phases, with tenders due to go out shortly for the first phase.
According to Pumps Africa, the existing plants in the industrial zone include a seawater desalination complex in the Ain Sokhna port area with a capacity of 512 000㎥ a day that was inaugurated five years ago.
