Cape Town — Fifteen female entrepreneurs in Kenya are undergoing specialised training to improve their businesses’ chance of success.
Disrupt Africa reports that Standard Chartered Kenya, in collaboration with iBizAfrica-Strathmore University, hasselected 15 women-led start-ups to participate in a 12-week business-based incubation training initiative under its Women in Tech programme.
This year’s participants were selected from a pool of more than 250 start-ups across a wide array of sectors, including agritech, transport, education, logistics, renewable energy and tourism.

The number of participants has increased from the 10 of previous cohorts. They will receive business management training, mentoring and seed funding.
As reported by African Business Communities, this year’s theme is “Empowering Women for a Sustainable Future”, which is in line with the programme’s main objective – to train the startups in Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) practices, while also providing them with the opportunity to advance Kenyan and global initiatives.

“Kenya’s advanced use of technologies means that it is in an ideal position to apply creative interventions to global climate issues. We are very confident that the businesses that we shall be incubating shall power the future of business in Kenya and beyond,” says Joyce Kibe, head of corporate affairs, brand and marketing at Standard Chartered Kenya.
Following the training, seven of the start-ups will each receive US$10 000 in funding.
