Cape Town — The private prosecution battle between former president, Jacob Zuma, and current president, Cyril Ramaphosa, rages on ahead of his appearance in the Johannesburg High Court.
Zuma has accused Ramaphosa of being an “accessory after the fact” for failing to act against state prosecutor, Billy Downer, and journalist, Karyn Maughan, whom the former president has alleged released private medical details in violation of the National Prosecuting Authority Act (NPAA). The matter was postponed in December 2023, SABC News reported.
During his appearance today, Zuma looks to case on the roll as he seeks private prosecution against the ANC leader. Last year, Ramaphosa successfully applied to the court to review and set aside the former ANC leader’s bid, which the he appealed before the High Court, but lost.
According to The Citizen, The Jacob Zuma Foundation spokesperson, Mzwanele Manyi said the former president and uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party leader is expected to attend the proceedings in person at the Johannesburg High Court.
““The purpose of the appearance is to update the criminal court of the progress in the ongoing appeals in the SCA (Supreme Court of Appeal) against the court order reviewing and setting aside the summons served on the accused Ramaphosa in December 2022 at his home and in his personal capacity.” Manyi said.
