The arrested man, 51, faces charges of drunken and reckless driving.
Zuma’s involvement in the accident comes amidst his nomination by the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party for parliament, despite objections due to his criminal record.
Zuma’s party plans to appeal the electoral commission’s decision regarding his nomination.
Meanwhile, SABC News reported on Friday that previously, uMkhonto weSizwe alleged that foul play was involved in the car accident with which Zuma was associated.
Musa Mkhize, the head of elections for the MK party in the region, said that Zuma was deliberately targeted, the report said.
“What happened last night I must say that unfortunately, we have been waiting for it to happen and it has happened because the president was warned that he will be laying in hospital, we don’t know what more is still coming.
“Whoever is doing it, they know themselves out there. I am not the one saying it, they said it publicly, they have said it on national broadcaster and people we all know who they are,” the report quoted Mkhize as saying.
