Despite gaining significant votes, the MK party did not retain control in KwaZulu-Natal and failed to influence national politics significantly.
According to The Citizen, critics predict the party will be short-lived.
However, if the MK party allies with smaller opposition parties, it could challenge the African National Congress (ANC)-led government of national unity (GNU).
The ANC is still negotiating with the MK party to form the GNU.
The MK party decided to participate in provincial legislatures but did not send its MPs to the National Assembly.
The Constitutional Court rejected the MK party’s attempt to block the first parliamentary sitting and overturn election results.
