Cape Town – Former president Jacob Zuma is no longer a member of the African National Congress (ANC) after missing the 21-day deadline to appeal his expulsion.
The ANC expelled Zuma following a disciplinary hearing in July for forming the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party, which the ANC deemed counter-revolutionary.
Speaking to Newzroom Afrika, ANC Veterans League president Snuki Zikalala expressed regret that Zuma chose not to appeal his expulsion from the ANC.
“We heard that he was going to appeal and so we have not heard from the secretary general’s office whether he has or he has not. But they close a chapter now on those who destroy the organisation itself because for him to establish the MK party, for him to have taken the legacy of MK in the ANC is nothing else but counter-revolutionary,” Zikalala said.

He also said that the conclusion of the Zuma era marks a “chapter of renewal” for the ANC.
“This chapter is a chapter of renewal saying that those who are undermining the organisation, using the organisation as a stepping stone to ensure that they divide the organisation, they have no place in the organisation itself.
“Those who are involved in counter-revolutionary activities, they don’t have a home in the African National Congress,” Zikalala said.
“Here it is, my own membership card to uMkhonto WeSizwe. This is my ticket to being part of the organization. I encourage everyone to get one as well,” Zuma said in IsiZulu.
