Cape Town — The African Congress for Transformation (ACT) has said that the relationship between Ace Magashule and uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party leader, Jacob Zuma, is strong.
This comes after ACT leader, Ace Magashule fired 11 members of the party after they were spotted in a picture with MK leader, Jacob Zuma. At the time, the party had said it the members were in direct contravention of the party’s goals and principles and listed disloyalty as one of the reasons for the expulsion.
However, ACT spokesperson, Mohau Khumalo, dismissed these reports and said the members were dismissed for breaching their constitution. He said it had nothing to do with the MK Party and that the party never mentioned the MK Party in its original letter, IOL reported.
Khumalo said the suspension had nothing to do with Zuma or Magashule and said the relationship between the two leaders remained strong.
“We are still working very closely with MK and both leaders share a special bond and history in politics,” Khumalo said.

However, according to The Citizen, Zuma’s unchallenged authority as MK leader was seen as a possible reason why any amalgamation with Magshule’s ACT has not yet happened. A source had revealed that Magashule and Zuma were not as close as they used to be, suggesting a change in power dynamics.
The source suggested that Magashule did not want to be controlled and failed to understand that leadership was two-fold.
The MK Party also removed 18 members from the party, saying they were not expelled but rather replaced in the National Assembly. The party said the members were advised not to be sworn in as they would be replaced at a later stage, such was the case.
