Cape Town – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has arrived in South Africa for his first official visit, marking a historic moment.
He was received by South Africa’s Minister of International Relations, Ronald Lamola.
The visit aims to strengthen economic ties, promote cultural exchanges, and engage in discussions on conflict resolution.
Zelenskyy plans to meet with President Cyril Ramaphosa and various representatives from political, civil, and student communities across Africa.
Key issues on the agenda include pushing for a just peace in Ukraine, urging greater involvement of G20 nations in diplomatic efforts, and seeking South Africa’s support in the international effort to return Ukrainian children abducted by Russia.
“We are preparing for important meetings in South Africa with President Cyril Ramaphosa and representatives of political, civil, and student communities of African countries. It is crucial to bring a just peace closer,” Zelenskyy said.
“We are working to ensure that the G20 countries are actively engaged in diplomatic efforts. We count on South Africa’s meaningful participation in the International Coalition for the return of thousands of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia. We will also certainly strengthen our cultural and educational ties.”
