Cape Town – Dali Tambo, son of former ANC president Oliver Tambo, has reportedly expressed optimism about the ANC’s future, saying that while his father’s dream remains unfulfilled, the party can reclaim power and restore hope in South Africa.
According to The Citizen, he emphasised the ANC’s unparalleled impact over its 110-year history and called for its continued transformation.
“The day is not over, we’re not through with our journey. We need to win this election and we need to be in power for at least another 30 years. We’ve transformed this country and we must continue to transform it.
“Over the last 30 years, there is no-one other than the ANC that has had an impact on the lives of all the people of this country,” the report quoted Tambo as saying.

Tambo urged the party to address its challenges, emphasising the need for introspection and a decisive victory in upcoming elections to honor his father’s legacy and achieve true economic freedom for the nation.
South Africa is to hold general elections on May 29 in what is expected to be the most competitive vote since the advent of democracy in 1994.
According to Mail & Guardian, the ANC has mobilised its entire ministerial cadre, possibly leveraging government resources, to embark on a vigorous advertising campaign aimed at promoting its achievements in the crucial weeks leading up to the national polls.
In a leaked recording of the recent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa emphasised the necessity of securing 14 million votes for a decisive victory.
“In order for us to win, it’s no longer getting 10 million votes that (we) used to do in the past. Now we’ve got to get 13 to 14 million votes in order to be assured of a clear victory. So there’s much work to be done and if there’s the leadership that can do it, it’s this leadership,” Ramaphosa said.
“Our commitment will then be able to demonstrate to provincial leadership and regional leadership that we all need to pull this wagon and make sure that it moves forward,” the report quoted Ramaphosa as saying.
