Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa has reassured that the ANC remains confident in its support base despite the emergence of the uMkhonto weSzwe (MK) party in KwaZulu-Natal.
Speaking in Durban, Ramaphosa expressed the ANC’s determination to secure victory in the upcoming elections, dismissing doubts about winning an outright majority.
Despite the formation of the MK party led by former president Jacob Zuma, Ramaphosa said asserted the ANC’s strength and predicted a clear majority at the polls, IOL reported.
“The ANC has an overarching presence in KZN and all other political parties that are emerging today are trying to nibble the edges and all they will ever do is to nibble at the edges. The ANC has great hegemony and we will emerge victorious because the people of KZN and indeed South Africa love the ANC.

“We are going to have a clear majority. Even recent making of a party called MK party will see what the ANC is all about, even here in KZN. I have no doubt about that. Our strength and our support here is strong,” the report quoted Ramaphosa as saying.
The ANC and the MK party are embroiled in a legal dispute over the name and logo, with a High Court judgment pending on the matter.
“Even today, here in Amaoti, I visited several homes and met people. People told me that their children are attending school, with some of their children already in tertiary institutions.
“They told me that they are not paying anything for their children’s education and that the ANC government was covering all the costs. They told me they appreciated that a lot,” Ramahosa said, according to The Witness.
Some surveys have indicated that the uMkhonto we Sizwe Party (MKP), under the leadership of Zuma, was eroding support for the ANC in the province.
Nonetheless, Ramaphosa assured the audience that the residents of KZN placed greater trust in the ANC than in any newly formed political entity.
