Cape Town – Former ANC deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe has reportedly dismissed suggestions that he become acting president, as pressure mounts on Cyril Ramaphosa to step down amid the Phala Phala farm scandal.
Motlanthe said this while speaking to media personnel at ANC headquarters, Luthuli House.
According to Times Live, some within the ruling ANC had suggested Motlanthe as potential caretaker president should Ramaphosa vacate his position as the head of the country
Motlanthe said his generation had made its contribution in top leadership positions and there was no need to recycle them, the report said.
“If you make flames and put ash on top of them you have doused them,
“We [my generation] are ash now. We are not anything but ash,” the report quoted Motlanthe as saying.
On Thursday Ramaphosa was in talks with the ruling party, as pressure mounted on him to quit or be forced from office over a cash burglary at his farm that he allegedly covered up.

Meanwhile, a special national executive committee (NEC) meeting that was scheduled to take place virtually on Thursday evening had been postponed to Friday morning for a physical meeting at Nasrec in Johannesburg, reported TimesLIVE.
Magwenya confirmed Ramaphosa would quell all speculations on the Phala Phala matter by addressing the nation.
