Cape Town – Amid leadership upheavals in the MK Party following Jabulani Khumalo’s dismissal as Jacob Zuma’s deputy, attention has reportedly shifted to Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, speculated to fill the vacant position.
According to Times Live, Zuma-Sambudla has been closely involved with her father’s activities since his departure from the ANC to align with the MK Party in December.
Speculation abounds that Zuma may be preparing her for a prominent role following the expulsion of Khumalo, who founded the party, alongside Ray Khumalo, Bheki Manzini, Lebo Moepeng, and Rochelle Davidson last week.
However, Zuma-Sambudla, denies grooming for deputyship but admits her supportive role, the report said.
“My father is the head and I am the neck. I sit in the national core [executive committee] and vote with other comrades in the decision-making process,” she said during an interview on a YouTube podcast, The Shady PHodcast, on Wednesday.
She dismissed suggestions her father planned to appoint her as his deputy.
“I have not been called to deputise my father. I would not say my dad is grooming me to take over. But he shares knowledge with me, teaches me how to be patient and not move too fast.”
Though listed as No. 18 for parliamentary candidacy, she prefers working behind the scenes over becoming an MP.
“I love working behind the scenes. I do not see myself in parliament doing ‘point of order’ . I have better things to do. I am on the list, reluctantly.”
