Cape Town — uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party secretary-general, Floyd Shivambu, has cautioned members against approaching Jacob Zuma directly for matters that can be handled by the provincial leadership.
During a media briefing, Shivambu said members would specifically go to Zuma and supersede the provincial leaders regarding party matters. While he acknowledged that some of them had good intentions, others had ulterior motives.
“The culture, or sub-culture, sometimes it’s done with good intentions, but sometimes it is done with bad intentions,” he said.
“People might say, ‘We are just visiting the president; we just want to say thank you to the president; we just want to introduce ourselves’ and when they are there, they are talking about the internal dynamics of MK, and the leadership or someone they are complaining about is not immediately there,” he added.

Shivambu said Zuma held an open-door policy and MK members know he is willing to speak with them, but boundaries need to be respected within the provincial structures.
“We are then saying that, as a matter of proper record and proper conduct of the organisation, if you want to raise organisational issues or issues that relate to governance, raise it in the relevant structures instead of going to raise them there [to Zuma].”
He said certain members of the MK organisation might not go to Zuma to discuss any issues, but instead would go to take pictures with him and use it to harass other party members.
“That is what we are dealing with much more decisively, to protect the character of the organisation which is able to deal with its own issues,” he said.
