The anniversary party will take place at Mandela Park Stadium in Khayelitsha today and is a culmination of a number of activities and celebrations the party has embarked on throughout Cape Town and the Western Cape.
The president is expected to outline the party’s priorities and orders ahead of the big celebration, The Citizen reported.
This year’s statement is expected to address the challenges faced during the first year of the Government of National Unity (GNU). More than 20 000 people are expected to be at the event.
During his Gala Dinner speech, the President touched on several challenges including the National Health Insurance (NHI), the ANCYL, and what the significance is of the anniversary celebrations.
“Your presence here tonight does bear testimony to the enduring way in which we celebrate January 8th and the birth of our movement. Your presence here is a great honour, not only to the ANC, but also to the founders of the ANC,” Ramaphosa said.
