Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed condolences following the death of Namibian President Hage Geingob.
Geingob was Namibia’s third president and a key figure in the country’s liberation from colonialism and apartheid.
He was 82.
Geingob passed away in a Windhoek hospital after a recent cancer diagnosis.
Ramaphosa praised the late president as a stalwart and thanked him for his unwavering support to South Africa during its struggle for freedom.

The President acknowledged Geingob’s influence in fostering solidarity between Namibia and South Africa.
“Today the people of South Africa join the people of our sister state, Namibia, in mourning the passing of their leader, patriot and a friend of South Africa. He was also greatly influential in the solidarity that the people of Namibia extended to the people of South Africa so that we could be free today,” said a statement released by the presidency.
