Cape Town — The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party is set to celebrate its first anniversary in December this year, with celebrations taking place throughout the country.
Recently-elected secretary-general of the MK Party, Floyd Shivambu, said the party would announce its plans to address the party’s celebrations, including an address by [party leader, Jacob Zuma to announce the party’s officials’ celebrations, Newzroom Afrika reported.
“We are going to have the main celebration programme on Sunday the 15th of December in Moses Mabhida Stadium. That will be a public rally. This will be followed by a gathering on the 16th of December, which is the actual date of the MK Party,” he said.
He reiterated that the MK Party was not a Zulu nationalist party but a party that was interested in the needs of all South Africans.
“MKP is not a Zulu nationalist party, it’s a national liberation movement that seeks to emancipate the entirety of South Africa. That is why it got to contest elections in all the provinces and got to win seats in seven of nine provinces and the voter base is a variety of voters,” he said.
“There has never been a single articulation from any of the leaders; there’s not even a sentence that suggests the party is a Zulu nationalist party. It’s a progressive national movement, a liberation movement that seeks to fight for total decolonisation, that is fighting against all forms and manifestations of oppression in South Africa,” he added.
The MK Party will celebrate its first anniversary at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban in December. The party, which is eyeing the eThekwini Municipality in the upcoming local government elections, has recently welcomed ANC and EFF members to its ranks.

According to The Citizen, Shivambu said the party was not ashamed of any of its leaders, including Zuma. He defended Zuma and said his “Stalingrad strategy” has been successful in delaying his legal cases.
“There were so many people who were even saying that President Zuma stole billions of rands, he’s building mansions in Dubai, he’s doing all of those things. Not even one person today can come with proof that Zuma took a single cent from the state for his own personal benefit out of the so-called nonsense of state capture,” Shivambu said.
He added that the MK Party was not ashamed of any of its leaders, including embattled former High Court Judge, John Hlophe.
” The reason they displaced him was because they were fearful that he would rule against them, that he stands firmly against the racist culture which is beginning to encroach the judiciary in the Western Cape High Court and other spheres of society,” he said,
He said that no other political party has enjoyed and experienced the success that the MK Party has managed within its first 12 months.
