Cape Town – Former President Thabo Mbeki says there is need for the ANC to develop stances on evolving global issues, especially those where it does not align directly with the African Union.
Speaking at the ANC International Relations sub-committee retreat, he highlighted topics such as BRICS, the G20, conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, and the shift towards multilateralism.

“There are many changes that are happening in the world. You hear for instance the formation of BRICS. You have the issue that President Ramaphosa next year is going to be hosting the G20 summit.
“You’ve got the conflict in the Middle East. You’ve got the conflict in Ukraine. A lot of discussion about multi-literalism away from unilateralism. Where does the ANC position itself with regard to all of those?
“So I am saying there are established positions like on the matter of the reform of the security council of the AU positions and the South African government has adopted those positions also,” SABC quoted Mbeki as saying.
