Cape Town — African National Congress’ (ANC) secretary-general, Fikile Mbalula, has lambasted the alleged double standards of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
The ANC has faced backlash over its decision to enter a Government of National Unity (GNU), namely a partnership with the opposition Democratic Alliance (DA). The two parties collectively won more than 60% of the votes and will now form the majority of the new coalition that also includes the Patriotic Alliance (PA) and the Good Party.
According to The Citizen, EFF leader, Julius Malema, accused the ANC of entering a grand coalition with the DA, and warned that history would judge the two parties. He said it was not a GNU, instead it was a grand coalition of the ANC and white monopoly capital.
Mbalula addressed Malema’s comments and reiterated that it was not a grand coalition, and said the DA is part of the GNU. He also said Ramaphsoa was voted iin by two or three parties.

Mbalula also took to X and was forced to address comments made the the opposition EFF, who claimed the party “sold out” by choosing to work with the DA. He pointed out that the EFF also worked with the DA.
“On Friday, the EFF voted with the DA in the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature for a DA Speaker and DA Premier candidates, while at the same time in the National Assembly condemning the GNU initiative that includes the DA.” he said,
“So, when the EFF works with the DA that is ‘progressive’, and when any other party includes the DA in any initiative that is ‘sell out and reactionary’. I’ve never seen such kind of ideological volatility,” he shared on X at the weekend.
Voted with the IFP and DA in all hung municipalities in 2016, resulting in the DA occupying mayoral positions in critical metro municipalities. Just now, on Friday, the EFF voted with the DA in the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature for a DA Speaker and DA Premier candidates,…
