Cape Town – ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula on Thursday outlined the party’s coalition plans before Parliament’s first sitting on Friday.
After losing its majority in the 29 May elections with just over 40% of the vote, the ANC has been negotiating with 17 parties, including the EFF.
However, the EFF and ANC disagree on the proposed Government of National Unity.
Mbalula confirmed meeting with EFF leader Julius Malema but emphasised that not all discussions should be public.
“What is discussed behind closed doors between leaders is not a matter of public consumption because you have to respect each other. That is the perimeters.
“We are negotiating, we are engaging with everybody but not with a cap in hand. There is nothing we beg from the EFF, anywhere in the country,” The Citizen quoted Mbalula as saying.
He said that the ANC engages respectfully with all parties, even those with minimal seats, and stressed the importance of collaboration over arrogance in current negotiations.
