Cape Town — The African National Congress (ANC) has decided to postpone its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, scheduled for this upcoming weekend, until early January 2025.
ANC secretary-general, Fikile Mbalula, revealed the meeting was called regarding the party’s leadership structures in Gauteng and Kwa-Zulu Natal (KZN) following their poor electoral performances in the respective provinces, EWN reported.
On Monday, Mbalula said the ANC’s leadership in Gauteng presented a report to the National Working Committee explaining the reasons behind the party’s electoral majority loss, seven months after losing its majority in Gauteng, KZN, and the Northern Cape.

He said that the party had a difficult and busy political agenda over the coming weeks and made the call to postpone the meeting to discuss Gauteng and KZN’s futures.
“We also have the SACP National Congress, we’ve got the two-state visits, which meant we tried to shift to Saturday and Sunday, but it’s not possible. In Matsikamma, we have the celebrations of Reconciliation Day, so it’s just traffic when it comes to dates. We want when we meet and reflect on the issue, we want every one of the NEC members would like to reflect and engage with the report that will be presented to them, and that is what will happen in January,” he said.
