Cape Town – The African National Congress (ANC) regional secretary, Sasabona Manganye, has announced that Johannesburg will soon have a new mayor.
Negotiations are underway for the resignation of the current mayor, Kabelo Gwamanda.
Speaking during an interview with Newzroom Afrika on Saturday, Manganye said that the ANC aims to appoint a new mayor by the following Friday.
According to EWN, ANC Gauteng Chairperson Panyaza Lesufi also said that there is broad agreement that the next mayor of Johannesburg should be from the majority party, which is the ANC.
“The process of consultation with all other political parties that we have been working with unfortunately took long but we really believe it’s very important. You don’t just abandon people because you have found new players, new people, or new political parties that are supporting you,” the report quoted Lesufi as saying.
