Cape Town – Co-operative and Traditional Affairs Minister, Dr Nkosazana Dlamaini-Zuma, has declared that she is going to win and become the next ANC president.
Dlamaini-Zuma said this as she confirmed that she would be taking on President Cyril Ramaphosa when the party hosts its 55th national elective conference in December
Speaking to Newsroom Afrika, Dlamini-Zuma said although she had not been pronounced in terms of the leadership that was pronouncing other people, and despite not having the resources and not being the right gender as those that had been pronounced, she was determined to be the next ANC president.
“I am standing and I am going to win. Who entered a race to fail?,” said a confident Dlamini-Zuma during the interview on Friday.
This would mark her second attempt at the top job after she ran a campaign in 2017.
Dlamini-Zuma said she had decided not to focus on the past campaign but to look forward.
Other candidates vying for the position included Deputy President David Mabuza, suspended secretary-general Ace Magashule, treasurer-general Paul Mashatile, Tourism Minister Lindiwe Sisulu and former treasurer-general Mathews Phosa for the ANC’s 2022 presidential race, reported TimesLIVE.
South Africa Billionaire businessman Patrice Motsepe had also been nominated to run for the position of party president by ANC Limpopo branch, although he had not responded to the call yet.
When asked about the allegation that her campaign team had met with Sisulu, Dlamini-Zuma denied the meeting saying, she was free to talk to any ANC member who wanted to talk to her.
“I am not aware of any meeting. I am an ANC member; I talk to all ANC members. If any ANC member wants to talk to me, I will talk to them,” she said.
Speaking on the step-aside guidelines in light of Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm scandal, Dlamini Zuma said it was important for Ramaphosa to show exemplary leadership, be transparent and have integrity.
“Well, I think first of all, I would have loved the president to take us as the ANC NEC into confidence, and then we take it from there. As NEC members we are completely clueless. The president did say he’ll go to the integrity committee, we are waiting for the report from the integrity committee. We’ve not received it yet,” Dlamini-Zuma said.
