Cape Town – Minister of Agriculture and DA leader John Steenhuisen says his party would align with President Cyril Ramaphosa rather than the EFF and MK Party.
He said this on Wednesday while addressing the media on the role of the party in the national government and parliament in the current administration
Steenhuisen mentioned the DA’s support for Ramaphosa if the Phala Phala case resurfaces and said that the party’s stance will depend on its presentation in parliament.
He noted that the case had previously been discharged and expressed reluctance to support a motion of no confidence, citing greater corruption concerns in the Matodzi affidavit related to state capture.
“We would be unlikely to support a motion of no confidence because, frankly, Phala Phala pales into insignificance in light of the Matodzi affidavit and the acts of blatant corruption associated with state capture,” he said.

Steenhuisen emphasised that aligning with Ramaphosa is a more prudent choice compared to the EFF and MK Party, which he accused of seeking to exploit state resources for personal gain.
He also addressed the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill, emphasising the DA’s opposition and proposing collaboration with the private healthcare sector.
The DA leader expressed satisfaction with the Government of National Unity’s (GNU) progress and openness to partnering with the ANC to address significant issues.
