Cape Town – The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has declared its intention to win the Gauteng province and overthrow the ruling African National Congress (ANC) in the upcoming May general elections.
The party’s provincial manifesto launch on Saturday at the Dobsonville stadium in Soweto, themed “land and jobs now, stop load shedding”, featured leader Julius Malema addressing supporters.

The red beret-wearing attendees voiced their allegiance to the EFF, chanting slogans and holding placards expressing their determination to take over South Africa in 2024.
The EFF, confident of victory, aims for over 50% of the vote to avoid forming coalitions.
“It is the EFF that will change things. It is the EFF that will create jobs and it is the EFF that will stop load shedding,” The Citizen quoted the arty’s provincial chairperson Nkululeko Dunga as saying.
He said that “come the May 29 elections, Gauteng will be under different leadership”.
In addressing the crowd, Malema accused Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi of dishonesty regarding the e-tolls issue.
Malema, critical of Lesufi’s State of the Province Address (SOPA) claime that e-tolls would be scrapped in March, referenced Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana contradicting this statement.

He labelled Lesufi a consistent liar, attributing it to the ANC’s history of deception since 1994.
“He went to the state of the province to lie again and said in March there won’t be e-tolls. And the Minister of Finance said Panyaza the liar is lying because the e-tolls are here to stay. Panyaza has been leading Gauteng with lies because he is a liar from an organisation that lied since 1994,” Malema said, according to SABC News.
Malema promised Soweto residents that if the EFF secured power in the upcoming elections, the party would eliminate the debt owed to Eskom.
Asserting that the EFF government prioritises preventing power deprivation, especially among the impoverished, Malema deemed it inhumane to deny electricity based on financial constraints.
