Cape Town – The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says it has opened a criminal case against National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula after its members were manhandled by Parliament Protection Services on Thursday.
According to The Citizen, President Cyril Ramaphosa was delivering his budget vote speech when the EFF members repeatedly heckled him and other ANC MPs.
The EFF refused to let Ramaphosa deliver his speech.
Mapisa-Nqakula called the EFF members to order, but the red berets continued to disrupt the president.
The EFF members were removed from their seats in Parliament by security.
Scuffles then broke out between the Red Berets and security officials, with footage showing EFF MPS screaming, pushing and throwing bottles of water.

In a statement, the EFF said that a woman was assaulted physically and sexually.
“The Economic Freedom Fighters has opened a criminal case against the tyrannical, bloodthirsty and factional speaker Mapisa-Nqakula, after she resolved to instruct thugs to barge into the National Assembly and assault Members of Parliament.
“Under Mapisa-Nqakula’s instructions, a woman was assaulted physically and sexually on Thursday, 9 June 2022 for daring to refuse that President Cyril Ramaphosa address the nation and Parliament. What followed was the premeditated assault of Members of Parliament for three hours, for demanding accountability as the nation, the continent, and the world watched,” said the EFF in a statement.
