Cape Town – Leader of Good Patricia de Lille has voiced her concerns about the lack of women in leadership positions in parliament.
As the only female party leader in parliament, De Lille founded the GOOD party in 2018 to become the first woman to start a political party and secure seats across all government levels. Despite efforts to close the gender gap, De Lille is dissatisfied with the number of women leading political parties, with parliament comprising 43.5% women and 56.5% men.
“Thirty years later, when I looked at the ballot paper, I could see it was dominated by male faces. Maybe South Africans are not ready for a female president,” De Lille said.

She highlighted the challenges women face in politics and encouraged them to persist.
“I will be the first to say it’s tough. You have to balance your family life, earn an income and campaign, and it’s not very easy. I can say to the women who participated in the elections, don’t give up, continue to fight and build.”
