Cape Town – ANC regional chairperson Dada Morero has been elected as the mayor of the City of Johannesburg for the second time.
Morero defeated the DA’s Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku in the mayoral race.
He previously served as the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Finance in Johannesburg, a position considered the second most powerful in the city after the mayorship.

He first became mayor in September 2022, following the removal of the DA’s Mpho Phalatse through a motion of no confidence.
However, his initial term as mayor was short-lived, as the Johannesburg High Court later deemed the council sitting illegal, leading to Phalatse’s reinstatement.
