Cape Town – Former president of the ANC, Thabo Mbeki is in the Western Cape province where he is expected to spend two days, meeting with leaders and members in an attempt to revive the party.
According to SABC, Mbeki will be interacting with party provincial structures.
“The decision was taken that we call comrade Thabo so that we can tap into his knowledge, in the main we’re seeking all solutions towards rebuilding the ANC and dealing with all the challenges we have as the ANC especially here in the province,” the report quoted Provincial convenor Lerumo Kalako as saying.

The theme of the meeting has been stated as follows: “The year of unity and renewal to defend and advance South Africa’s Democratic gains.”

A News24 report said that similar to several ANC structures, the party in the Western Cape is not immune to troubles caused by factional battles and internal fighting.
The province’s leadership was dissolved in 2019, the report said.
