Cape Town – ActionSA’s Chief Whip, Athol Trollip, says his party would reconsider its decision to join the Government of National Unity (GNU) if the Democratic Alliance (DA) exits the coalition government.
He also warned the ANC about potential consequences if they fail to reverse the planned Value Added Tax (VAT) hike set for May 1, a part of an agreement between the ANC and ActionSA.

The agreement includes the scrapping of the VAT increase and inflation adjustments for personal income tax.
Trollip made these remarks after ActionSA helped the ANC-led government pass the budget in Parliament.
He noted that ActionSA would reassess its position if the DA exits the GNU, but emphasised that the decision would depend on the GNU’s stance towards the party.

He further responded to the DA’s legal challenge against the budget, stating that while the DA was within its rights to pursue legal remedies, ActionSA had made genuine attempts to engage with them on the budget, which were met with reluctance.

The presidency expects the DA to decide its future in the GNU, as it cannot proceed with programmes funded by a budget they did not approve.
