Cape Town – Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has come under fire following the remarks he made regarding South Africa’s first black billionaire Patrice Motsepe.
This comes after the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on Tuesday released its third quarterly report on political parties’ donations received from donors, in accordance with the Political Party Funding Act of 2018 (PPFA).
The report revealed that Motsepe’s Rainbow Minerals and Harmony Gold companies paid millions of rands to the African National Congress (ANC), Democratic Alliance (DA), Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) and the Vryheidsfront Plus commonly known as Freedom Front Plus in the past quarter.
The EFF received two payments totaling R2.1 million from both companies.
Following the revelation, a video in which Malema suggested during his cross-examination at the Equality Court last week that Motsepe was pretending to be a billionaire, started trending on social media.
“I am not sure Patrice Motsepe is a billionaire. I am not sure… sometimes I have [a] suspicion that [he is] an imposter. I am not sure. I don’t agree,” Malema said.
