Cape Town – Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has been cleared by the social media platform, Twitter, following a complaint from Germany over his somewhat controversial “Thank you God” tweet.
Malema posted the tweet on Thursday, just moments after the news about the death of former apartheid president Frederik Willem De Klerk.
It remained unclear, however, what Malema’s tweet was in reference to, but it received mixed reactions, on social media, with some suggesting that it may have been related to De Klerk’s death.
De Klerk died at his home in Cape Town at the age of 85.

Malema on Friday shared a screenshot of a notice from Twitter, which revealed that there was a complaint about his tweet from Germany.
“Twitter is required by German law to provide notice to users who are reported by people from Germany via the Network Enforcement Act reporting flow. We have received a complaint regarding your account for the following content: ‘Thank you God’,” the notice from Twitter read.

The EFF on Thursday released a statement rejecting the “insincere and irrelevant” apology made by the late former president regarding the exploitation, torture and murder of black people during apartheid.

“De Klerk, who denied that the legislated separate development, exploitation, torture and murder of black people was a crime against humanity, dies with no honour, and with the dark cloud of having maimed and traumatised families across our nation,” read the statement in part.
