Cape Town — With tensions seemingly at an all-time high within the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), the party’s national chairperson, Veronica Mente, has maintained there is no crisis within the party.
The EFF has been rocked by the news that its deputy president, Floyd Shivambu, had resigned from the party in favour of a move to Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party. He was vocal about the disloyalty within the party and encouraged anyone who did not want to be in the EFF, to leave.
However, Malema was supported strongly by Mente, who reaffirmed her commitment to the party and renewed her membership in July.
“I am a member of the EFF in good standing having renewed my membership on July 17. The EFF is the only political home I have, and will remain one even if I am the last member remaining,” Mente was reported as saying.

According to The South African, Mente denied the perception that the party was in crisis due to their poor performance during the 2024 elections and said things were exacerbated by Shivambu’s departure.
She said the EFF is here to stay and that people are using the moment to create a crisis, but there is no crisis. She also remained coy over whether she would be up for the position of deputy president when the EFF’s National Assembly elective conference takes place in December.
“We have not discussed issues of positions,” she responded, directing the conversation to the EFF’s stability.
“The EFF is going nowhere. The EFF is here to stay. People are using this moment to try and create a crisis moment. There is no crisis,” Mente said.
