Cape Town — Speculation is rife over whether or not Jacob Zuma’s son, Duduzane Zuma, will join the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party in a leadership role.
This comes after Duduzane was at the memorial service of the six MK Party members who died in a car crash on the way to the birthday celebrations of Zuma’s first wife, Sizakele Khumalo.
The MK Party said it was just speculation that Duduzane was set to feature in the party, but a source in the party has revealed that discussions have taken place over a possible role for him within the party, The Citizen reported.
“It will not be long before this is announced, he has already hinted that he will be joining. He was convinced by a close friend to form his own party before the elections but realised that politics in the country is tough while the MKP, under Zuma, is up and running,” the source said.
Dudzane had contested the 2024 general elections with his party, the All Game Changers (AGC), but just one month before the elections, was removed from the ballot box as the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) ruled that there was a lack of compliance with the registration process.

Meanwhile, Duduzane’s sister, Duduzila Zuma, is a representative in the MK Party as an MP. She was recently sworn in as a member of the Pan-African Parliament.
According to eNCA, political analyst, Musa Xulu, said he would not be surprised if Duduzane joined the party along with his father and sister.
“It must be remembered how the MK Party was formed, it was not formed in a normal way like a normal business in terms of how you run it and how to distribute responsibilities,” he said.
The party is instead centred around Jacob Zuma, who has now claimed to be the founder of the party after previously denying it. Zuma has denied all forms of democracy in the party.
“He is employing what is known as traditional, or politics of identity, a somewhat kind of tribal approach where it centres around one person and it becomes a cult. So it is not surprising that Duduzane Zuma is coming home to his father’s palace where may soon become a leader in the party,” Xulu added.
