Cape Town – The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) received a single vote in Orania, a Northern Cape town known for its self-sufficiency and preservation of Afrikaner culture.
The vote was recorded at Orania Volkskool, while the Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) led with 376 votes, and the Democratic Alliance (DA) garnered 127 votes.
Despite its isolationist stance, this isn’t the first time the EFF has gained support in Orania, having received 21 votes in the 2019 elections.

The lone EFF vote sparked humorous reactions on social media, with users speculating about the identity and motivations of the voter.
According to The Citizen, Orania, established in 1991 by Carel Boshoff, aims to grow from its current population of around 3,000 to 30,000 and expand significantly.
Although often criticised as an attempt to revive apartheid, the town’s residents insist their goal is to safeguard their cultural heritage and protect themselves from crime, under the constitutional right to self-determination.
