Cape Town — Political newcomers, Rise Mzansi, has outlined its plans to beat the social divides in Cape Town and the Western Cape, should the party be successful in the upcoming elections.
The Western Cape remains one of South Africa’s most unequal provinces in terms of wealth and poverty. Western Cape premier candidate, Axolile Notyala, outlined his party’s plan at a community meeting in Khayelitsha on Tuesday and said the people of the Western Cape are divided by race, class and space more than anywhere else in the country, TimesLIVE reported.
He said everyone should not have to deal with the fear of hearing gunshots during the night.
“There are those who live in safe communities and those like many of you who live in some of the most dangerous communities in the world, here in the Western Cape, where children can’t go to school because of shootings.”
Today, @AxolileNotywala unveiled the @Rise_MzansiWC Western Cape Bridge WC Plan to build a safe, prosperous, equal, and united province in one generation. I’m grateful for photographer @Sebatsane for capturing my joy in this pic that speaks 1000 words.#WeNeedNewLeaders pic.twitter.com/ZKKXGJqwyR

The inequalities and poverty worsen between those who live in urban centres and those in rural areas who experience extreme levels of poverty and neglect.
In its plan to bridge the seen and unseen divides in the Western Cape, Rise Mzansi promised to make all communities safe for everyone.
It will do this by lobbying the SAPS to increase its crime intelligence capacity to find illegal guns and drugs and confiscate them.
According to Notywala, who was raised in Khayelitsha, their plan was to create “bridges” between communities from all backgrounds through “spatial justice” and integrated human settlements and he detailed the party’s plans for the city and the province, EWN reported.
One of his plans was to address the lack of housing through various social housing initiatives, targeting golf courses and military bases.
“We will make large pieces of public land such as military bases and golf courses in Mowbray and Rondebosch available for social housing or parks and recreation centres.” Notyala said.
Thusong Hall in Khayelitsha is packed to capacity as supporters & community members gather for the ‘Bridging the Divide: Western Cape Plan’ which will be outlined by WC Premier Candidate, @AxolileNotywala.
