Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to attend the inauguration of Zimbabwe’s president-elect, Emmerson Mnangagwa, in Harare on Monday.
Mnangagwa secured a second term in office in elections that were marred by controversy, including issues with the voters’ roll, opposition rallies being banned, biased state media coverage, and reports of voter intimidation.
Despite these challenges, the South African government congratulated Zimbabwe for conducting what it called “harmonised elections”.

In a statement released on Sunday evening, Ramaphosa’s office indicated that the president would be heading to the neighbouring country and will be accompanied by International Relations and Cooperation Minister Dr Naledi Pandor.
The inauguration ceremony will take place at the National Stadium and will also be attended by other dignitaries, including Rwanda’s President of the Senate François Xavier Kalinda, Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, and Nigerian vice-president Kashim Shettima, among others.
