Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday received a call from his Egyptian counterpart, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, who warmly congratulated him on his new term of office.
Last month, President Ramaphosa was re-elected for a second term during the first sitting of the National Assembly. He secured 283 votes in the highly contested May elections, defeating Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema, who received 44 votes.
“President El-Sisi shared with President Ramaphosa his expectation that South Africa and Egypt will continue to cooperate on issues of common interest,” the Presidency said is a statement.

Ramaphosa expressed his appreciation for El-Sisi’s good wishes and agreed on the importance of continued partnership between our two countries on matters of bilateral, continental and multilateral interest.
“Of particular significance to the two leaders is the need to work together on the Palestinian issue and the crisis in the Gaza strip,” the statement read.
Both presidents committed to deepening the fraternal ties between Egypt and South Africa, aiming to enhance continental solidarity.
They also agreed on the necessity of expanding trade, mutual investment, and other areas of economic cooperation between their countries.
