Cape Town — President Cyril Ramaphosa had a phone call to congratulate US President-elect, Donald Trump, as he is set to become the 47th US President.
Ramaphosa had previously sent a message to Trump to congratulate him via X but this time, the two Presidents had a phone call where Ramaphosa extended well-wishes to Trump and the two presidents agreed their countries will work to strengthen trade and political ties.
“I had an opportunity this afternoon to personally extend South Africa’s well wishes and congratulations to President-Elect Donald Trump on his election as the 47th President of the United States of America,” Ramaphosa said.
Ramaphosa also hoped the two countries would work together as South Africa, who will host the G20 Summit next year, will hand the reigns over to the US ahead of the 2026 G20 Summit.
“During our telephone call, we both agreed on the need to strengthen our trade and political ties. We also look forward to hosting President-Elect Trump during the G20 Heads of State Summit next year,” he said.
