Cape Town — President Cyril Ramaphosa has congratulated Russian leader, Vladimiir Putin on his re-election as president of Russia.
According to the Presidency, South Africa and Russia share many common memberships, including the United Nations (UN), BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) and the Group of 20 (G20), among others.
Ramaphosa reiterated the commitment of South Africa and Russia to mutually cooperate at a multilateral level.
He said that South Africa has a strong belief in the maintenance of strong international peace and security and that South Africa will continue to engage with both the Russia Federation and the Republic of Ukraine, in an effort to gain long lasting peace between the two countries, Presidency spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya said.

According to EWN, Putin won in a land-slide election with 87% of the votes in his favour. According to Russia ambassador to South Africa, Ilya Igorevich Rogachev, said both countries have shown a similar vision for the future of geopolitics.
“It is absolutely necessary to mention that our countries share the view of the future world – the world we would like to live in, and we will live in, which is a polycentric world without the dominance of a single power or a single bloc of states.” he said.
