Cape Town — President Cyril Ramaphosa has received mixed responses to his latest campaign trail after he shared his excitement over the number of supporters who showed their support, while also calling for all media publications to report fairly.
Ramaphosa was speaking in Bloemfontein, Free State, and he was told that that the community of Botshabelo are huge supporters of the African National Congress (ANC), The Citizen reported.
“I am grateful to see so many of you. I was told that this is the home of the ANC. They said ANC sleeps here, wakes up here, walks, runs and plays here – it does all these things here,” said the president.
The ANC enjoys massive support in Botshabelo and we have no doubt that we will do well here in the upcoming election. #VoteANC pic.twitter.com/84gc2ak77I

While the president does endorse media freedom, however, he simultaneously “yearns” for the media to report on both the good and the bad and called for balanced reporting.
“I would like for the media to look at balanced reporting. Quite often and many people can testify to this. There is always the darker side that the media focuses on and not the brighter side. Our story as South Africa is a mixture of both good and not so good,” he said.
What we expect from members of the media is balanced reporting – criticize where mistakes are made, but also give credit where it is due. The ANC fought for media freedom and will continue to ensure that the rights of the media are protected. #VoteANC pic.twitter.com/ighInnLRYZ
