Cape Town – Newly elected ANC deputy president Paul Mashatile has reportedly announced his readiness to become the country’s deputy president if called to do so.
Mashatile was one of the ANC’s top seven officials who were elected at the party’s 55th National Elective Conference at the Nasrec Expo Centre last month.
Speaking after visiting the grave of one of the ANC’s founding veterans, Thomas Mapikela in Bloemfontein, Mashatile indicated his willingness to serve as the country’s deputy president, reported TimesLIVE.
The report said though Mashatile was content with his new position, he was willing to serve as SA’s second-in-command if invited to do so.
“For now I have been elected as the deputy president of the ANC and work at Luthuli House. If I get invited to government at some point, I will join them,” the report quoted Mashatile as saying.
